How To Change CD/DVD/FLOOPY Drive's Icon and Label In Windows 8.1/8/7/Vista/XP

Changing default dvd/removal non-writable drive icon and name in windows can be a very amazing tweak . This is a pretty easy tweak , So, you can get this .



 STEP 1. Press Winkey+R to open the Run box, type in regedit and hit Enter to open Registry editor.



STEP 2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\ and look for Applications key. If you don’t have that key, then right click on Classes->New->Key. Name that new key Applications




STEP 3. After that, right click on the Applications key and choose New->Key. Name it Explorer.exe.



STEP 4. Right click on Explorer.exe key ->New->Key. Name it Drives. After you created the Drives key, right click on it ->New->Key. This time, change key’s name to the drive letter you want to change (example: I). It should look something like below:



STEP 5. Now, create a new key inside C key. Right click on it and choose New->Key. Name it DefaultIcon.



6. Locate you icon find. Hold Shift and then right click on the icon file, choose Copy as path.




7. Back to Registry editor window, double click on (Default) value of DefaultIcon key.Pasted the path you copied in step 6 to Value data. Click OK to save. After that, close the Registry editor. It should take effect immediately. If it doesn’t, please restart your computer.

Lets Try Changing any rom (Read Only Memory) drives label like i did , Let's start .....

STEP 1 : Press Winkey+R to open the Run box, type in regedit and hit Enter to open Registry editor. 



STEP 2 : Goto KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\I\

("I" is the letter associated to my optical drive , You will have to search for your optical letter and if it isn't there create a new key named the optical drives letter)



STEP 3 : Select it and right click on the (Default) value in the right explorer pane. select "modify", and then enter what you want to call your drive.



This procedure only appends the label to the drive's name and letter, and
not do any replacement.

It shoud work right then but in case if it doesn't then please restart your computer :P
