Windows 8 or 8.X.X is 100 times faster than windows 7 in my opinion from out of the box , I love it for it's performance and options , currently i'm using Windows 8.1 Update 1 as you can see down below :

Tweak 1 : Enable Fast StartUp Through Hybrid Boot
One of the most compelling reasons to go with Windows 8 is because of a snappy new feature called Fast Startup.Also known as Hybrid Boot, Fast Startup was designed with one purpose: to kick your lazy computer awakewith gusto.In fact, according to tests from Gabe Aul, Director of Program Management at Microsoft, Fast Startup can have a positively bracing effect on your ability to get going in the morning.Aul estimates that most systems enabled with Fast Startup were up and running 30-70% faster than their non-hybrid-boot peers.
How Hybrid Boot Works :
During a typical old-school shutdown:
- The OS has to close all user sessions.
- It also has to flush all services and devices in the kernel session.
Windows 8 modifies that last step by hibernating the kernel session instead of closing it.But it’s not your normal hiberation…
To hibernate your system Microsoft dumps the contents of memory into a file called hiberfil.sys.
In Windows 8, the OS does a partial hibernation which allows it to quickly write your session to hiberfil.sys. Then whenever you press the power button you’re really telling Windows to read the contents of hiberfil.sys back into memory. This is a lot faster then going through the lengthy power on self test process that besieged previous versions of Windows.Fast Boot is also more efficient because, in mult-core systems, it concurrently uses all cores. In other words, all your system’s processing cores work in unison to decompress the contents of hiberfil.sys.
Enabling Hybrid Boot :
Step 1 : Press WindowsKey+X+ A to open command prompt with administrator privileges and type "powercfg -h on" without the Quotation and hit enter like below :
Step 2 : This Time you'll need to backup registry of your windows in case anything bad happens , then in the commend prompt opened earlier type below code and press enter
REG ADD "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Power" /V HiberbootEnabled /T REG_dWORD /D 1 /F
There you go , you did it , your windows boot up should be faster and if you have UEFI support then it should be blazing fast :D ,,,,,,
Tweak 2 : Increase Aero Peek Speed
Aero Peek is a useful feature that lets you see through all your open windows to your desktop as long as your cursor is hovered over the bottom right corner of your screen. By default, there will be a slight delay of about half a second before the desktop is shown. This tweak will remove that delay to instantly show the desktop when your cursor is there.
How To Do This :
Step 1 : Press WindowsKey+R to open Run and Type regedit in run to open registry editor
Step 2 : Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Explorer and click on Advanced.
Step 3 : On the right panel, right-click and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value and name it DesktopLivePreviewHoverTime.
Step 4 : Right-click the newly created registry and select Modify. Choose Decimal and enter a Value Data of 1, which means Aero Peek will activate in 1 millisecond. Done
Tweak 3 : Increase Taskbar Preview Speed
When you hover your cursor over a taskbar icon, a preview will be shown, thereby enabling you to choose the correct window to navigate to. We’re now going to tweak it so that the preview will come up faster, eliminating the default 1-second delay.
How To Do This :
Step 1 : Press WindowsKey+R to open Run and Type regedit in run to open registry editor
Step 2 : Goto HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Control Panel and click on Mouse.On the right panel, look for MouseHoverTime and right-click to Modify it.Select Decimal and enter a Value Data of 1, which means when you hover your cursor over a taskbar icon, it’ll take just 1 millisecond for it to show the preview.
Tweak 4 : Increase Context Menu Speed
By default, the context menu will expand when your cursor hovers over it, after a short delay. Applying this tweak will enable Windows to show an expandable context menu faster or almost instantly whenever your cursor hovers over it.
How To Do This :
Srep 1 : Press WindowsKey+R to open Run and Type regedit in run to open registry editor
Step 2 : Goto HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Control Panel and click on Desktop.On the right panel, look for MenuShowDelay and right-click to Modify it.
Step 3 : Select Decimal and enter a Value Data of 1, which means when your cursor hovers over an expandable context menu, it’ll take 1 millisecond for it expand.
Tweak 5 : Switch Active Windows With Mouse
In the Ease of Access Center, there’s a feature that allows you to activate a window by hovering over it with the cursor. This allows users to view all their open windows swiftly without the need for clicking the mouse. This feature is especially handy for trackpad users as they won’t have to tap on their trackpad to activate a window in the background. A simple Regedit hack can also increase or shorten the delay when activating windows. To do this,

Step 1 : Press WindowsKey+R to open Run and Type regedit in run to open registry editor
Step 2 : Goto HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Control Panel and click on Desktop.On the right panel, right-click on ActiveWndTrackTimeout and select Modify.
Step 3 : Select Decimal and change the Value Data to something you’re comfortable with. The number you enter is calculated in milliseconds . I used 0 . Try Different values if you are not comfortable enough.
